Hypoglycemia in People Without Diabetes
While fairly uncommon, hypoglycemia does occur in people who do not have diabetes.
Hypoglycemia appears in people without diabetes in two forms:
reactive hypoglycemia
and
fasting hypoglycemia.
While fasting hypoglycemia is often related to an underlying disease, reactive hypoglycemia
is not usually related to any illness.
Symptoms of Non-Diabetic Hypoglycemia
Symptoms of these types of hypoglycemia resemble diabetic and hypoglycemic symptoms,
including:
- Hunger
- Nervousness
- Perspiration
- Shakiness
- Feeling dizzy or light headed
- Feeling sleepy or confused
- Difficulty speaking
- Anxiety or weakness
If you are diagnosed with hypoglycemia, your doctor will try to find the cause by
using laboratory tests to measure blood glucose, insulin, and other chemicals that
play a part in the body's use of energy.
